Kuwait has arrested four men it accuses of being members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after they tried to enter Bubiyan Island by sea and injured a Kuwaiti soldier.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement published on X Tuesday that the operation took place on May 1 and that the navy seized “a fishing boat that was given to carry out anti-Kuwait activities” and admitted that it had been tasked by the IRGC to “infiltrate”.

The ministry named the members of the group as Colonels Amir Hussein Abd Mohammed Zara’i and Abdulsamad Yadallah Qanwati, Captain Ahmed Jamshid Gholam Reza Zulfiqari and First Lieutenant Mohammed Hussein Sehrab Faroughi Rad.

During a clash with Kuwaiti troops on the island, a gunman wounded a member of the Kuwaiti team, the ministry said. Two other members of the group – Captain Mansour Qambari and the boatman, Abdulali Kazem Siamari – fled the battle.

There was no immediate reaction from Iran to the allegations.

Bubiyan is the largest island of Kuwait, located in the northernmost part of the Gulf near the Iraqi border. It has significant advantages due to its proximity to major shipping routes and its proximity to oil fields in northern Kuwait and military bases.

On March 30, an Indian citizen was killed in an attack on a Kuwaiti power plant and desalination plant that Kuwait also claimed belonged to Iran. Tehran has denied responsibility for the protests and has instead blamed Israel.
