Ina Yoon extended her lead at the Women’s PGA Championship with a three-under 69 that put her five strokes back of the second-place pack after another strong showing from the South Korean.
Yoon, who shot a record 63 in the first round at Hazeltine National Golf Club, had two bogeys with nine birdies at 12 under. The 23-year-old is seeking his first LPGA Tour victory.
LPGA Tour leader Nellie Korda, who opened her bid for a third consecutive major title this year with a quiet 70, had a 68 to move into a tie for sixth place with Donggun Lee.
England’s Charlie Hull and Lottie Wade lost more ground during the second round and later missed the cut by two over and three over respectively.
Ina Yun extended her lead at the top of the LPGA’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship to five shots after two rounds.
Nasa Hataoka, Brooke Henderson, Ae Lin Kim and Hae Ran Ryu all placed second. Ryu shot a 64 and Henderson birdied his last three holes for a 68. Hataoka shot a 67 and Kim had a 70.
Yoon, Kim, Ryu and Lee gave South Korea four of the top seven midway through a tournament that has so far enjoyed calm, dry and comfortable conditions with high temperatures in the mid-70s.
Yoon became the fourth player in 1955 Women’s PGA Championship history to lead by five or more strokes through 36 holes, following Mickey Wright (eight, 1958), In Ji Chun (six, 2022) and Christy Kerr (five, 2010).
England’s Charlie Hull and compatriot Lottie Wade both missed the cut after the second round at Haseltine.
Korda once again had hundreds of fans following his every shot, streaming from hole to hole as he traversed the long 6,700-yard course in suburban Minneapolis.
After birdieing four of his first nine holes, Korda faded a bit down the stretch and finished with six straight pars as a hook struggled with his tee shots. He hit into the rough along the treeline to start his back nine before two-putting for bogey on the first hole.
