What is that?
German coach Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool legend, has consistently closed the door on any possible return to coaching clubs, stressing that his only ambition is to manage the German national team in the future, while flatly rejecting any offers from Real Madrid or other big European clubs.
Klopp’s agent, Mark Kosicka, revealed in a statement that the 58-year-old is “happy in his current position as head of Red Bull’s global football division and is not looking to coach at any other club”, categorically denying allegations of his client taking the Royals job.
Riquelme tries
Today’s Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme promised to offer Klopp the job as manager if he wins the presidency as part of an ambitious campaign plan that also included promises to bring in Erling Holland and Rodry from Manchester City.
However, the 37-year-old Riquelme faced a strong rejection from the German coach’s agent, who described the attempts as an “annoying affair”, stressing that Klopp is not considering returning to daily training with the clubs at all.
Germany… the only dream
Despite his adamant refusal to return to club training, Klopp has made no secret of his deep desire to one day manage Germany, a dream he has held for years and which he sees as the only exception to his decision to stay away from day-to-day training.
His agent confirmed that “Klopp does not want to return to training on a day-to-day basis, but managing his country’s national team still appeals to him”, clearly indicating that the door is still open for this one option.
Nagelsmann’s future is in jeopardy
Julian Nagelsmann currently holds the position of coach of the German national team, but his future will largely depend on the Manshaft’s performance at the 2026 World Cup, which is currently underway in the United States.
Serious questions have already been raised about Nagelsmann’s ability to lead the national team, especially in recent years Germany have witnessed at major tournaments, as the pressure on him will be greatly increased if the national team is knocked out of the group stage for the third time in a row.
Previous rejection
Klopp turned down the chance to coach his country’s national team in 2023 to stay at Liverpool, preferring to fulfill his commitments to the English club, which saw him achieve historic achievements including the Champions League and Premier League titles.
But last February, his agent Kosicki admitted that the situation could change in the future, saying: “Klopp feels an obligation that prevents him from always turning down the job,” which clearly indicates that the German coach sees managing his country’s national team as a national duty that he cannot turn down forever.
