King Charles said he was impressed with the design of Europe’s first eco-mosque and praised the “care and attention that went into it”.
The King was briefed on Cambridge Central Mosque’s environmental credentials when he visited the place of worship on Monday.
He was greeted by several well-wishers at Mile Road before he spoke to dignitaries and devotees inside the building.
Eco-friendly plans on site include efficient heat pumps, solar panels and the collection of excess water from sinks and rainwater.
The building is illuminated year-round by large skylights in the ceiling.
The king, who took off his shoes before going to the prayer hall, was presented with a book describing the 1,000-seat mosque.
