Kieron Pollard: Overtakes West Indies legend Chris Gayle as record T20 run scorer


Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has overtaken compatriot Chris Gayle as the record run-scorer in T20 cricket.

The 39-year-old Pollard reached 14,583 runs with a century MI New York in Major League CricketGayle’s tally has gone up to 14,562.

The right-hander scored 1,569 runs in T20 Internationals, while the rest came in List A T20s around the world in domestic and franchise cricket.

Gayle, who last played a competitive T20 in 2022, had led the standings since March 2014.

It is a record that could change hands many times over the next month with former England opener Alex Hales 134 runs behind in third place and Jos Buttler fourth and 212 runs behind.

Buttler could have played eight T20Is for England between July and September.

Pollard also holds the record of playing 736 T20Is.

He is currently combining playing and coaching. He was the batting coach of Mumbai Indians during the Indian Premier League and will be the head coach at MI London this summer in men’s cricket.
