Since taking over from COSU (custodian of Southend United), they have helped to stabilize the football club, delivering back-to-back top-seven finishes, taking it to Wembley twice and, on Sunday, delivering our first domestic cup win.
“Kevin has been involved in more than one game in our 120-year history as both a player and head coach and has firmly cemented his status as a club legend.

Maher, who made 454 appearances for Southend between 1998 and 2008, told BBC Radio Essex after Sunday’s Wembley success: “I’m very proud of the players and the fans who turned up in their numbers.
“It’s the first domestic cup the club has won – it’s definitely in the highlights of my career.
“It’s been some tough times this year and I’ve been talked about a lot but I love winning trophies for this football team.”
In 2024 he was Freedom of the City of Southend granted In recognition of his dedication to the club during a challenging financial period.
