Keith Piper: Former Warwickshire wicketkeeper dies aged 56

Former Warwickshire wicketkeeper Keith Piper has died aged 56.

Piper spent 16 years with the Bears and was a key part of the club’s treble-winning side in 1994.

Under Dermot Reeve’s captaincy, Warwickshire won the County Championship, the 40-over Sunday League and the 55-over Benson & Hedges Cup and were denied a clean sweep of silverware by rivals Worcestershire in the 60-over Natwest Cup final at Lord’s.

That same year, Piper claimed 66 red-ball dismissals, a county record seven-innings win at Essex, Durham’s unbeaten 116 at Edgbaston, and Brian Lara’s world-record 501 not out.

That century was one of two in his 4,618 first-class runs along with 14 half-centuries.

In total, they have dismissed 540 first-rate employees, including more than 500 people who have been arrested.
