Keith Connor and Joe Locke: ‘Making a film like Heartstopper will be important forever’

The final installment of the Heartstopper saga was originally slated to be released as a fourth series, but despite the short run time, each individual story was still carefully handled.

The film explores conversations around eating disorders, mental health, alcohol dependency and difficult family transitions.

Locke and Connor are both producers for this final season, which Connor says allowed them to be “creative input and mouthpieces for the cast” who “care about these characters and the whole story.”

Locke, 22, jokes that often people only give the producer credit, but explains, “We definitely put some effort into it and took it seriously.”

There’s some sadness as we say goodbye to each other on a professional note, with Locke saying the show “changed my life in every way.”

“It’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to any of us,” Connor added.

“I consider John a friend, if we work together again that would be great but he’s a great actor and I love watching his work,” he says.
