A Kanye West the concert in Italy was canceled due to the “security and safety button”.
The 48-year-old rapper, who changed his name to Ye in 2021, was supposed to perform at the Pulse of Gaia festival at the RCF Arena in Reggio Emilia on July 18, but the mayor of the city, Salvatore Angieri, canceled the performance after “concern” from the Jewish community due to previous statements against the West.
Concert 17 July with West’s fellow US rapper Travis Scott at the Hellwatt festival has also been canceled as the two festivals are scheduled on consecutive days.
Scott was later impeached 10 people aged between 9 and 27 have died at his Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas, in 2021 as fans took to the stage.
The translation of the statement released by the government of Reggio Emilia after the meeting about the future of the concert, said: “The meeting was about evaluating the stability and security of the people related to the concert of the American artist (West) and the event of Travis Scott, which was also organized at the RCF Arena.
“Based on the observations made at the committee meeting and the security and safety investigation, the director … (ordered) the cancellation of both concerts.
“The proposal covers two consecutive events at the RCF Arena, a venue with a capacity of approximately 103,000, and is designed to ensure peace and security…
“All the analysis took into account the cancellation of previous concerts by the American rapper in other countries and the real threat of protests.”
In April, West’s show in Marseille, France, was canceled after he was refused a UK visa earlier that month. This led to him canceling his appearance at the London Wireless Festival, following a backlash due to critical comments.
West released a song called Heil Hitler in 2025, and previously advertised a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website. He has also been criticized for writing antisemitic tweets and describing slavery as a “choice”.
In January, West took out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal apologizing, titled: “To Those I’ve Hurt.”
He wrote: “I am not a Nazi or a person who hates Jews.”
She said her bipolar disorder had caused her to fall into a “four-month, weird, weird and crazy frenzy that destroyed my life”.
After the cancellation of his Wireless performance West offered to meet Jews in London “to listen”.
West has had three number one singles and three number one albums in the UK and is best known for songs including Black Skinhead, Gold Digger and Stronger, while Scott has had five top 10 singles in the UK and just one album with Utopia.
West will play at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on Saturday and are scheduled to play at the GelreDome football stadium in Arnhem, the Netherlands, on June 6 and 8.
