Kamavinga paid the price for his difficult season.
Didier Deschamps has put an end to speculation and announced France’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup, which has thrown in some big surprises between high-profile exclusions and the return of fame-making names.

Deschamps justified Chevalier’s exclusion in statements to Foot Mercato newspaper, saying: “I understand his disappointment, but unfortunately he has not played for several months.
The French coach did not hide that he understands Kamavinga’s sadness, explaining: “He is coming off a difficult season. He played fewer matches and suffered injuries. He’s still young, but I have decisions to make. There is a team structure and the players have to be distributed between the lines.”
Deschamps, on the other hand, praised Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, stressing that his inclusion was “thanks to what he provided in the camp last March. It gives the whole team more confidence.”
As for the return of N’Golo Kante, Deschamps did not hesitate for a moment. “He’s a special player, his athleticism is always there and he’s always at his best. N’Golo is the same, he smiles in the morning and shines in the afternoon.”
France begin their World Cup campaign in Group Nine, facing Senegal, then Iraq, and close the group stage against Norway.
