He expressed his anger at Maguire’s absence
Former England captain John Terry has slammed Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup selection after he decided to keep a host of big names home.
The England team has been in the USA for more than a week, where they are preparing for their first match in the tournament against Croatia on June 17.
The full squad is now back together after four Arsenal players – Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke – were given extra time off following the Champions League final, with the 26-man squad confirmed and ready to go.
Raised choices Thomas TuchelThere was widespread controversy, especially after notable players such as Phil Foden and Cole Palmer were left out, and John Terry joined the controversy.
Speaking on Sports Uncensored, he stated that at least 11 of the 26 players must not be included in the squad if England are to succeed this summer.
“I just think you have to have your best players out there. “There are only 13, 14 or 15 players who can play if we want to win this World Cup,” Terry said.
He continued. “When I look at the rest of the team, I’m not sure if they will put pressure on the players who will play.”
He has cast doubt on some of the more controversial names in the squad, such as Dan Byrne and Nico O’Reilly, who are playing in their first internationals.
The Chelsea legend noted the potential lack of experience in the squad and wondered if it would cost the team dearly.
“First of all, I really like him (Tuchel). Obviously I’ve seen his work with Chelsea when he was there… He brought us success in the Champions League as well. What I like about him is that he’s not afraid to make these big decisions, and I think we saw that in his team.”
He continued. “Actually, I don’t agree with the players who were not selected for this tournament. Harry Maguire is the first of them. Luke Shaw is at left back. We are considering adding O’Reilly to this position. I think a player like him needs a player like Luke Shaw to help him, calm him down and give him some advice. important decision”.
“I think he made three or four important decisions on the field. I think you need your best players as you advance in these World Cups.”
He continued his speech about Maguire by saying: “For me he’s a better player than Dan Byrne and now if the other two players are injured I’d much rather Harry Maguire come in and come on.”
John Terry concluded. “I think he’s always a big threat from tackles at the end of the match and I know Dan Burn is a similar threat when he can do that… but I’ll always pick Harry Maguire in this position.”
