Joe Joyce insists a rematch with Daniel Dubois is “an attractive option”.
Joyce handed Dubois his first professional loss in 2020 when he defeated him.
Dubois was counted out after sustaining a serious loss in that fight with Joyce, but went on to become a two-time heavyweight world champion with wins over Anthony Joshua and Fabio Wardley.
Joyce himself won a WBO interim heavyweight title, while he also dominated Joseph Parker.
But defeat to Zhilei Zhang derailed him and Joyce, now 40, has also lost to Filip Horgovich and Derek Chisora in his two most recent bouts.
The Briton is now looking to get his career back on track when he takes on undefeated opponent Artem Suslenkov on July 11 and finally return to the world stage. He wants a rematch with Dubois, who now holds the WBO heavyweight world title.
“It’s always an attractive option,” Joyce said Sky Sports. “Before I took Zhang, which was obviously a bad decision, I was the WBO interim (champion) beating Dubois and Parker. So that’s a bit of a mistake that I’m going to correct now.”
A loss to Suslenkov would end those hopes. “I have to deal with what’s in front of me first before looking too far,” Joyce said.
“The motivation is to get the win and get back out there and put in a dominant performance.
“I’ve made some changes and I’m training hard and getting ready for that fight.”
He is adamant he can turn off years of inactivity.
“It’s just boxing,” Joyce said. “I’m training, I’m learning this year, I’m working so I’m ready to show what I’ve learned.”
