Jimmy Parchard: The Jersey Man has an international cricket ground in his garden

Charles grew up with the ground at his garden end, making his debut in 2010 before taking over the captaincy in 2017 and said walking on the ground as captain disappointed him.

“Looking at dad, all my family there, it was definitely a special moment,” he said.

Jimmy added: “I’m proud of the facility but the fact that Chuggy (Charles’ nickname) has done so well for Jersey makes the whole family very proud of him.

“His brother is crazy about cricket and they used to play cricket together in every daylight when they were kids.

“I used to play with them until they started beating me and they didn’t want to play with me anymore.”

Jersey is currently ranked 29th in the ICC Global T20 Rankings.

The team missed out on making the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka last summer on net run rate, beating Scotland and narrowly losing out to the Netherlands in qualifying.

The team is back on track – they qualified from their T20 World Cup sub-regional Europe qualifiers in Cyprus last month and will return to the final round next year as they aim to make the 2028 T20 World Cup.

“A lot of the national aspects today come through the farmer’s pipeline,” Charles said.

“I think it’s gone a long way in helping to develop the talent that Jersey has today, so I think I owe a lot of thanks to my old man and the Farmers Cricket Club for their support in helping these young players.”
