Jenny Scoble: Wales prop and firefighter to retire from Test rugby

Firefighting Wales prop Jenny Scoble will retire from international rugby after Saturday’s match against the Barbarians at the Allianz Stadium.

The 33-year-old will make one last outing for his country in a double-header at Twickenham, with the men’s game at 14:00 BST followed by the women’s game at 17:00 BST.

Scoble will continue to play for Golia Lightning in the Celtic Challenge but has decided to retire from international rugby to focus on his job as a firefighter.

“This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make and one I’ve thought long and hard about,” Scoble said.

“Playing for Wales and being part of the squad means everything to me but combining my role as an international rugby player with my career in the fire service has been a really delicate and difficult balance.

“I’ve prided myself on my ability to give my best in my rugby career and my fire service career, but now the demands mean I don’t think I can do that.”
