Jannik Sinner: ATP world no.1 says players don’t get respect they deserve amid calls for boycott of Grand Slams.

Meetings were held between players and Grand Slam representatives. The players have made no progress on their demand for a contribution to benefits, and have rejected discussions about the formation of a Grand Slam players’ council.

Sinner expressed his displeasure with the 9.5% prize money handed out at this month’s French Open – a total that players believe is still less than the 22% of tournament earnings they believe they are entitled to.

The US Open’s financial pot grew 20 percent last year, while January’s Australian Open rose 16 percent year over year.

“I think we’ll know the prize money at Wimbledon in the next two weeks,” Sinner said.

“We’re really hoping that the best will be the best. Then of course the US Open. So I understand players talking about a boycott because that’s where we have to start. It’s been too long at this point.”

Sinner stopped short of committing to boycotting one of the Slams.

“It’s really hard to say, I can’t predict the future somehow,” he said.

“It’s the first time I feel that the players are all in the same situation and in the same attitude.

I also think it is right because without the players, there will be no competitions. At the same time, we know and respect competitions because they make us great as athletes.

“Let’s look to the future.”
