It’s official… Jurgen Klopp is Germany’s coach until the 2030 World Cup

The German Football Association today announced the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as Germany’s new coach, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who stepped down following the 2026 World Cup failure.

The German Federation reported that Official announcementKlopp, 59, has signed a contract until the end of the 2030 World Cup and will begin his duties on August 15.

Klopp has rejected numerous coaching offers since his departure from Liverpool in 2024, before returning to the coaching chair for the first time in his career through the national team portal.

Nagelsmann’s departure comes after Germany crashed out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the round of 32 after losing 5-4 on penalties to Paraguay in a draw at the end of the match, an exit that was seen as falling short of the federation’s pre-tournament goals.

Nagelsmann took over as Germany coach in September 2023, replacing Hansi Flick, before his contract, which ran until 2028, was terminated by mutual agreement with the federation.

Guardiola’s man is Klopp’s assistant on staff

Klopp’s coaching staff will include Peter Kravitz, Pepin Linders and Sven Binder.

Kravitz and Linders have been some of Klopp’s closest assistants for many years and they have achieved many achievements with him at Liverpool, most notably winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.

Dutchman Landers (43) recently took over as assistant coach to Spain’s Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, while Kravitz (54) joins the German federation from Red Bull after previously working with Klopp at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund.

Sven Binder (37 years old) returns to the German Federation after coaching experience at Borussia Dortmund and Unterhaching. He also previously worked as an assistant coach with Germany’s U-16 and U-17 national teams between 2022 and 2024, in addition to an international playing career that saw him make seven first-team appearances.

Klopp: The German national team unites us more than anything else

Klopp said after signing the contract. “The national team is able to unite Germans like nothing else can, and that’s what makes this mission so special for me.”

“I’m grateful for everything I’ve experienced and learned with Red Bull over the past year and a half, and I’m also grateful for their cooperation and openness that made this agreement possible.”

He continued. “I am now looking forward to this special mission in German football and we will work together with humility and patience to build a team that fights for each other, enjoys football and deserves the German fans to rally around it with all conviction.”

For his part, the president of the German Federation, Bernd Neuendorf, confirmed that Klopp was the first candidate from the beginning and said: “Jürgen Klopp embodies passion, credibility and the ability to inspire others, and therefore he was our first choice without hesitation after the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann.”

He added: “I express my thanks to everyone who contributed to the conclusion of this agreement, led by Oliver Mintzlaff for the spirit of constructive negotiations and cooperation, and to Aki Watzke for his great support.”

As for the first vice-president of the federation, Hans-Joachim Watzke, he said: “For me, Jurgen is one of the best coaches in the world. He develops his players and is good at leading and bringing people together, which is exactly what the German national team needs.”

“Jurgen Klopp has proven over the years his ability to develop young players and produce results under pressure. He also has a leadership personality that can motivate players and fans and I am excited to work with him.”

One of the most famous German coaches

Klopp is regarded as one of the most popular managers in modern German football history, after achieving great success with Borussia Dortmund, which he led to the Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012, in addition to the 2012 German Cup.

The German manager also created a remarkable era with Liverpool as he guided them to the Champions League title in 2019 before returning the team to the Premier League platform in 2020, ending a three-decade wait.

Klopp will play his first international match with the German national team in late September and early October, when he will play 4 international matches, starting with the Netherlands in Amsterdam on September 24, then hosting the Greek national team in Augsburg on September 27, facing Serbia in Munich on October 1, and the camp will end with a match against Greece on October 4.

The German FA hopes that Klopp will lead the project to rebuild the national team and restore its position on the international stage in preparation for the upcoming events, especially the 2030 World Cup.
