Item Cased the Epsom Derby with Dante’s win at York

Item appears a serious Epsom Derby contender after continuing his unbeaten run with a win in the Dante Stakes at York.

A son of racing great Frankel, the 11-2 priced item won both of his races as a juvenile and Colin Keane rode confidently to claim victory at Statement.

In his first race of the season, the Andrew Balding-trained Item race leader stayed close to the action and cleared about three lengths before pulling away in the final furlong, with Action (4-1) and 11-4 favorite Christmas Day running into second and third.

The result presents owners Juddmonte with another derby prospect following Wednesday’s win over Legacy Link Musidora.
