The head of the Interior Ministry in Gaza has been killed in an Israeli airstrike, according to Palestinian medics and Hamas sources.

Doctors on Wednesday said Naseem al-Kalazani, a police colonel, was killed in an Israeli attack on his car near the al-Mawasi area west of the city of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The attack injured at least 17 other people, he added.

Al-Kalazani led an anti-narcotics unit in Khan Younis, Hamas military sources said.

Meanwhile, Israel stepped up its attacks, killing at least three Palestinians near the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, health officials at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital said, bringing the day’s toll to at least four.

There was no immediate comment from Israel on any threats.

Violence in Gaza continues despite the United States’ “ceasefire” in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict itself It started working in October. Israel continues to attack Palestinians on an almost daily basis, and Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the agreement.

More than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023.
