Israeli soldiers killed two people in southern Lebanon, authorities said

The ceasefire has been largely in place since Sunday, the longest delay in weeks between the United States and Israel in a war that has erupted over Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday night that Israeli troops have full freedom of action against any Hezbollah threat and will remain in Lebanon “as long as necessary.”

Tuesday’s death came as Lebanese and Israeli officials opened talks in Washington to advance what the US State Department described as a “comprehensive peace and security agreement between the two countries”.

Iran has insisted on covering Lebanon under a deal it signed with the US last week, warning that a ceasefire violation could undermine wider diplomatic efforts.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahraini, warned that violating the ceasefire framework could hamper broader diplomatic progress.

“Lebanon is an unquestionable part of the agreement, and anything that happens in Lebanon affects the whole process, and it is the United States that must use all its power against Israel to stop the attacks on Lebanon.”

Lebanon has been embroiled in a war between Israel, the United States, and Iran.

Israel responded by bombing Lebanon and invading the southern part of the country.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 4,192 people were killed in the Israeli attack in Lebanon. Lebanese authorities say more than 1.2 million people have been displaced.

Israeli officials said 36 Israeli soldiers and four civilians were killed in the clashes on both sides of the border.
