The attacks that have taken place in the neighborhoods of Gaza City beyond the Israeli military line are expected to end the ceasefire.

Israeli attacks on two Gaza settlements have killed at least eight Palestinians, medical sources told Al Jazeera.

The two attacks targeted areas around Gaza City on Saturday: a warplane destroyed a house in al-Nasr and rockets hit the nearby district of al-Zeitoun.

The attacks followed Israel expanding the areas that are being hit inside Gaza, pushing beyond the so-called “Yellow Line” his power must hold at the fragile moment of “stopping the fire”.

Two missiles hit the second floor of al-Nasr killing five people, medical sources at Al Shifa Hospital told Al Jazeera.

The house was damaged and a nearby log was damaged, witnesses said.

Medical sources said several residents were injured in the busy pedestrian area.

Rescue teams were still searching for people trapped under the debris, the sources added, warning that the death toll was likely to rise.

Earlier on Saturday, artillery killed three people in al-Zeitoun, a suburb of Gaza City, medical sources said, noting that similar attacks had recently taken place in the nearby Tel al-Hawa district.

Israel confirmed that it had carried out protests across the Gaza Strip, the Associated Press reported.

Israel and Hamas agreed that a “cease fire” in the US in Octoberpart of President Donald Trump’s ambitious plan to end the war and start rebuilding.

Despite the end of the war, Israel continues to suffer daily attacks, which have killed at least 1,127 Palestinians. They include at least 260 children who have been killed since the ceasefire began, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. It said that five Israeli soldiers were killed immediately.

About 73,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023.

Israeli media reported earlier this week that the army now controls about 70 percent of Gaza, more than half of the territory its forces are supposed to have under the “ceasefire” agreement.

Reporting from Gaza, Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said the expansion is “shrinking” and “dividing” the territory into smaller, disjointed areas, making it “very difficult” for Palestinians to move from one place to another.

The route has led to the “erasure of urban life” and will mean people lose their lives, he added.
