Netanyahu said Israel would “increase” the protests, shortly after the Israeli army said it was attacking an army base in the Beqaa Valley.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli military to step up attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon to “crush” the army.
The Israeli leader announced this in a video released on Telegram on Monday night. “We are at war with Hezbollah, and we will increase our strikes,” he said. The law is in line with calls by right-wing organizations to escalate the war.

The order comes despite a ceasefire agreed with Lebanon last month, which was recently extended. Netanyahu said the Israeli army would not take “their foot off the gas. Instead, I said I would step on the gas again.”
Shortly after his speech, the Israeli army announced that it would launch a crackdown on Hezbollah in the Beqaa Valley and several other areas in Lebanon.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that the announcement also triggered an exodus of people from areas south of Beirut, Hezbollah’s main stronghold.
The announcement of the increase came as Lebanon wrote Independence Day, commemorating the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon after 18 years in 2000.
The order came amid daily strikes in southern Lebanon. More attacks on Israel have already been reported on the territories of Tire and Nabatieh. Four people died and three were injured in the town of Kfar Reman in Nabatieh district.
A number of strikes also hit the al-Midan neighborhood in Nabatieh city, destroying residential buildings and the capital of the Shia Muslim community.
Israeli planes also dropped phosphorus bombs in Qlailah forests, which caused fires in citrus groves and orchards, according to NNA.
Phosphorus materials burn when exposed to oxygen, and their use in residential areas is strictly prohibited.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health says 3,185 people have been killed by Israel since it entered into open war with Hezbollah on March 2.
Earlier on Monday, the Israeli army said a soldier had been killed by a drone “during the war” in southern Lebanon.
The military said another soldier was seriously injured in the incident and was evacuated for treatment.
Two of Netanyahu’s right-wing ministers on Monday called on him to resume bombing Beirut in response.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Israel must “end the threat of Hezbollah’s explosive drones,” and pointed to the approval earlier this week of a special budget of about 2 billion shekels ($692m) to implement technical measures to deal with the drone problem.
The leader of the Religious Zionist Party said, “For every plane that explodes, 10 buildings must fall in Beirut. The response to a serious threat must be serious.”
Defense Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for a return to the “terrible war” in Lebanon.
“It is not forbidden to update the facts about the drones; it is time for the Prime Minister to knock on Mr. Trump’s desk and let him know that we are going back to war in Lebanon,” he wrote on social media. “We must cut the electricity in Lebanon, defeat Dahiyeh, and return to the fierce war.”
