According to the National News Agency (NNA) of Lebanon, at least three people were also killed in the Israeli attack on the village of Jouaiya.
The Israeli army issued an order to force the residents of the villages of Sohmor, Roumine, al-Qusaibah, Kfar Hounah and Naqoura in southern Lebanon.
“It has been another day of violence here in southern Lebanon,” reported Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto, from the southern city of Tyre. “When the ceasefire is in place, we have seen the opposite of what Israel is doing,” he said.
At a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is “holding territory, evacuating territories, protecting Israeli villages, and fighting the enemy who wants to defeat us”.
Since fighting resumed on March 2, at least 2,988 people have been killed and 9,210 wounded in Israeli attacks across the country, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said on Sunday.
Sunday’s attack came after talks in Washington, DC, in which the two countries agreed to extend a 45-day ceasefire – although the original agreement that came into effect on April 17 never materialized.
The third round of talks in the US capital ended after the first direct meeting in decades last month between Lebanon and Israel, which do not have diplomatic relations.
The NNA said that the extension of the ceasefire aims to allow the US-led defense mechanism to begin on May 29, with the next round of talks between the two sides scheduled for June 2 and 3 in Washington, DC.
Hezbollah opposes direct talks, especially as Israeli forces continue to bomb southern Lebanon and occupy other areas since the ceasefire.
“The direct negotiations that the Lebanese authorities have held with Israel’s enemies … have led them to an impasse that will lead to nothing but another compromise,” Hezbollah MP Hussein Hajj Hassan said on Sunday.
“None of them or anyone else can do what the enemy wants, especially when it comes to disarmament,” he said, adding that the government is causing “big problems” in the country.
On Saturday, Hezbollah said it had hit an army base in northern Israel, after announcing several operations against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
This war has very negative consequences for humanity. Between March and April, more than 1.2 million people have been forced to leave their homes because of the war, according to the Danish Refugee Council.
The conflict is causing the economy to suffer. Bassem El-Bawab, head of the Lebanese Business Association, said the country has lost more than $25bn directly and indirectly since the start of the Israeli war in 2024.
About $12bn will be needed to rebuild, with El-Bawab warning that the cost could rise significantly if the conflict continues.
He said Lebanon is losing about $30m a day in economic damage, including direct damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure.
