Israel has ordered the forced eviction of all residents south of the Zahrani River in southern Lebanon as it escalates its offensive against the country in the face of possible to be beaten to the city of Nabatieh.
In a message on X TV on Sunday, Israel’s military spokesman, Avichay Adraee, told people to move north of the Zahrani river, warning that anyone who remained in the area could be killed.

Israel issued more than 10 evacuation orders in the past 24 hours as it ramped up its arsenal against Hezbollah, after its forces crossed the Litani River on Friday for the first time since 2006.
Israel captured Beaufort Castle, located on top of a beautiful hill near Nabatieh, Lebanon’s fifth largest city. Israeli forces previously captured the 12th-century fortress in 1982 and controlled it until they withdrew from Lebanon 18 years later.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the capture as a major victory.
“Under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and my instructions, (the Israeli army) expanded operations in Lebanon, crossing the Litani River, and holding the Beaufort Ridge – one of the most important things in protecting the Galilee and protecting the security of our forces.”
Israel has been around Nabatieha city that is an important economic center of southern Lebanon and a cultural center in the region.
Nabatieh is seen by many Lebanese as a symbol of resistance because of his history on Israel’s front lines.
Despite Israel’s advances in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, continues to fight Israeli forces. On Sunday, Israel confirmed that one of its soldiers had been killed in an attack by Hezbollah the previous day, bringing the total number of Israeli soldiers killed since the conflict escalated from March 2 to 25.
Al Jazeera reporter Nida Ibrahim, from the occupied West Bank, said that the Israeli government believes that Hezbollah has strengthened in recent months and is now showing great disdain, especially with the use of drones that have caused accidents in Israel.
Hezbollah has been deploying fiber-optic drones that are immune to electronic communications and undetectable by radar. Low-cost aircraft have entered Israel’s multi-species air defense, which is worth billions of dollars.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned Israel’s occupation of the country, accusing its southern neighbor of following a “global agenda” and imposing “uniform punishment” on the people of southern Lebanon. Israel has also been accused of targeting Palestinians in Gaza for its genocidal war and blockade of the city, including restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid.
Reporting from the southern city of Tyre, Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto said the Israeli offensive has caused a humanitarian crisis.
“The Israeli army has created an area that is actually a fifth of Lebanon where Lebanese citizens cannot go. Many families cannot return to their homes. There is demolition of houses. Today, the Israeli army continues to (demolish) houses and businesses.”
Israel and Lebanon are currently holding peace talks facilitated by the United States. Officials from both countries met at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, on Friday to discuss the implementation of the so-called “ceasefire” that went into effect in mid-April, which Israel has repeatedly violated. The talks are expected to resume next week.
Filippo Dionigi, Professor of International Relations at the University of Bristol, told Al Jazeera that the Lebanese government is in a difficult position because Israel does not want peace at the moment, which reinforces Hezbollah’s argument that it is the only way to defend itself. Dionigi added that Hezbollah’s opposition to the peace talks is adding to the tension.
“On the one hand, they have to negotiate with Israel and Israel is showing that it does not have a major political plan in Lebanon, it is only following military methods at the moment. On the other hand, they are also (pressured) by domestic politics.”
Both Lebanon and Israel want to see Hezbollah disarmed, but Beirut has resisted the move. Hezbollah, which is more powerful than the government’s army, says it is Israel’s only defense against Israel.
