“Israeli warplanes attacked, targeting Ghobeiri” in the southern region, Lebanon’s National News Agency said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the attack, saying that he and Defense Minister Israel Katz had instructed the military to carry out the attack.
“Radwan’s terrorists are the ones who bombard Israeli villages and injure the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). No terrorist is safe – the long arm of Israel will catch every enemy and murderer,” Netanyahu said in a post on Telegram.
“We promised to bring security to the residents of the north – this is how we do it and this is how we will do it!,” he added.
This is the first attack on the predominantly Shia area of southern Beirut since the Israeli-Hezbollah war began on April 17.
Israel and Hezbollah have been trading accusations of violating the cease-fire agreement since April 17.
The first one hit southern and eastern Lebanon with a heavy intensity despite the calm.
An Israeli attack in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed four people on Wednesday, as the Israeli army said it had defeated Hezbollah forces in the south, after warning residents of a dozen towns to evacuate.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for several operations against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, as well as attacks in northern Israel.
Israel’s airstrikes in Lebanon have killed more than 2,700 people since March 2, including many since the April 17 ceasefire with Washington between Israeli and Lebanese representatives.
The Israeli army said it also lost 17 soldiers and a civilian worker in the fighting.
