South Korean golfer Jenny Shin maintained her five-shot lead at the Women’s Scottish Open after Saturday’s third round, edging closer to her first LPGA Tour win since the Texas shootout more than 10 years ago.

Shinn, who has been in front since the 18-hole mark, produced a round of 71 (one-under-par) on the third day.

He was 12-under-par, five ahead of Thailand’s Pajari Annanrukarn, who shot a bogey-free 69 to climb from fourth to second.

Japan’s Erica Hara (71) and Germany’s Esther Henselit (73) were two shots back at five-under par, while Korea’s Ah Lim Kim tied for fifth at three under, a further shot back with Japan’s Miu Yamashita and 2024 champion Lauren Coughlin.

“It was a very tough round, I was pretty nervous for the first five holes, so I’m really glad I was able to finish the day in the red. It was a pretty nerve-racking and nerve-wracking day at the same time,” said Shin.

“It was a little bit of a hiccup on the 10th hole. I changed my setup this week because of all the wind, but out of habit I lined up the putt and went back to my old setup. I closed the mouth. I knew what I was doing, so I was able to get back into it pretty easily.

“I think the key is definitely hitting the fairway and then giving yourself a chance to get on the green. I have a pretty decent short game, so when I missed the green I wasn’t too worried because I hit it in the right spot.

“I’ve never been in this position (a five-shot lead), so I don’t know how to feel. I’ll go and practice a little bit and get a good feel for tomorrow, so I won’t make too much of a fuss in the morning. The first putt on my first hole today I didn’t really know what I was looking at, so hopefully tomorrow will be better because I’ve experienced all the niners today.”

Solheim Cup star Henselit said: “It’s been a tough game all week. I think on the first two holes, I got a little unlucky with my lies. I had to accept that bogey, and then I played pretty well.

“I didn’t really hit very close today, so there weren’t a lot of birdie opportunities, but I was able to get a few on the back nine.”
