Isam Chavali. We are watching a football scandal… I wish we didn’t have a ticket to the World Cup.

A prominent commentator is sad

Renowned Tunisian commentator Issam Chavali made sad comments on the 2026 World Cup match between Tunisia and Japan after the Carthage Eagles team continued to collapse and conceded the second goal in the 31st minute of the match.

The Japanese side extended their lead to 2-0 through striker Ayase Ueda, who fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area into the left corner of Ayman Daman’s goal to put the Tunisian side in dire straits in France coach Hervé Renard’s first game.

Chavali could not contain his emotions as the Tunisian team’s game deteriorated, as he said during the live broadcast:

He added: “Our players were exposed at the World Cup and the friendly against Belgium, which we lost 5-0 before the tournament, shattered the confidence of the players.”

The Tunisian commentator continued his sharp criticism, saying: “We are witnessing a football scandal at the World Cup, the history of Tunisian football is being falsified.”

Tunisia’s football federation sacked coach Sabri Lamouchi after a heavy opening round defeat to Sweden (5-1) before making a hasty signing of Frenchman Herve Renard in the hope of saving the team’s campaign at the tournament.

It wasn’t an ideal start for the French coach, however, after his side conceded an early goal in the fourth minute from Daichi Kamada before Ueda scored a second as the Carthage Eagles clearly struggled amid Japan’s superiority.
