Asparouhov said that several lines have changed, which has led Varda and United Therapeutics to cooperate. Varda’s W-6 spacecraft is currently in orbit, and Asparouhov said three more vehicles are planned for launch this year. The plan is to increase the cadence to start seven next year. The company currently has about 200 employees and has raised $330 million to date.

For a long time, Varda’s goal is not to be a space company, but a chemical company that works in space and brings valuable products to the world.

“We’re not just building access roads anymore,” Asparouhov said. “We’re also building a very large customer for re-entry systems, which is our entire pharmaceutical business. Because at the end of the day, what are you re-entering? If you’re re-entering things from space it’s probably people, where there’s a lot of human-tested stuff; then if you’re not re-entering people, then that’s a beautiful thing.”
