The Trump administration plans to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of ‘terror’.

Washington has lifted sanctions and plans to remove Damascus from the list of state sponsors of “terrorists”, a designation that dates back to 1979.

But security challenges continue – the most recent being the attack on the capital this month.

There is also pressure from Israel, which has seized additional territory in southwestern Syria since the ouster of the Assad regime.
