Significant increase in 2026 World Cup ticket prices compared to Qatar
Fifa President Gianni Infantino said that rising ticket prices for sporting events in the United States were justifying ticket prices for next month’s World Cup, pointing to strong demand for tickets in the resale market.
FIFA has received 500 million requests for World Cup tickets, and last month media reported that some tickets for the July 19 tournament final in New Jersey were being resold for more than $2 million each.
Infantino said in statements to the media from Los Angeles“If someone is putting Finals tickets on the secondary resale market for two million dollars, that doesn’t mean the ticket is worth two million dollars in the first place.”
He added: “Secondly, this does not mean that anyone will buy those tickets. In fact, if someone buys a ticket for $2 million, I’ll personally bring them a hot dog and a coke to make sure they have a great experience.”
Ticket prices for the World Cup held in the USA, Canada and Mexico have increased significantly compared to the 2022 match in Qatar.
Ticket prices for the final in July range from $2,030 to $6,370, which is much more expensive than tickets for the final in Doha, which ranged from $206 to $1,607.
The international soccer federation (FIFA) has faced demands from various parties, including dozens of American lawmakers, to lower ticket prices.
Due to price criticism, FIFA introduced a limited number of $60 tickets, located above the stands in the upper corners of stadiums, with limited availability compared to other categories;
Infantio concluded his speech. “Ticket resale is permitted in the United States. If tickets are sold at very low prices, they will be resold at much higher prices. We have 25% of group stage tickets under $300.
