Lorcan Tucker has been named permanent Ireland T20 captain ahead of the upcoming two-match series against India at Stormont on 26 and 28 July (14:30 BST start).
The wicketkeeper-batsman will lead an injury-hit squad missing six key players for the match in Belfast.
He has previously captained Ireland twice and has been vice-captain since 2025.
The 29-year-old is an experienced performer across all formats of the game for Ireland, earning 159 caps since making his debut in 2016.
Matthew Hollard and Joy Mundra received their first Ireland call-ups and Ruben Wilson recently received his first T20 call-up after playing the first Test against New Zealand.
Six players are unavailable for selection through injury – Josh Little (stress fracture), Mark Adair (torn rectus muscle), Paul Sterling (torn calf muscle), Curtis Camper (fractured hand), Barry McCarthy (complete ACL tear) and Jordan Neill (shoulder and foot injury).
Tucker’s appointment as T20I captain meant that Ireland had different captains for three different formats, with Andrew Balbirnie as the captain in Tests and Paul Stirling in One Day Internationals.
Tucker described his appointment as “a great opportunity.”
“I have a responsibility to the playing group and organization to represent them well and to all the other captains who have come before me.
“My approach to captaincy is to lead from within and by example. I like to feel that I have a good relationship with all the staff and players and that I can work with integrity and empathy.
“I think it’s my job to bring out the best in them and give them the opportunity to do amazing things for themselves and for us as a team.”
