Israel has killed at least 24 people in Lebanon in one day as Tehran’s response to the US decision to end the war is expected.

Israeli warplanes have targeted more than 10 towns in southern Lebanon as the ceasefire between Iran and the United States appears to be holding despite naval warfare near the Strait of Hormuz.
Israel on Saturday killed at least 24 people in a series of attacks despite suspending the fighting that began last month.
Meanwhile, Washington is awaiting Tehran’s response to its latest proposal to end the US-Israeli war in Iran, which entered its 72nd day on Sunday.
Here’s what we know:
In Iran
- The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Saturday threatened to target US positions in the Middle East with “enemy ships” if its tanks were fired, Iranian media reported.
- The Football Federation of Iran has said its national men’s team will take part in the 2026 World Cup this summer but has asked the US, Mexico and Canada to agree to the terms.
- An Iranian military spokesman warned that any country that would implement US sanctions against Tehran “will face difficulties crossing the Strait of Hormuz”, according to Tasnim News Agency.
Discussions of war
- Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, said Islamabad would continue its role as a mediator between the US and Iran. “We will do everything we can to win the mediation, and we will continue to do so,” Munir said in a public address on Sunday.
- Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday in Miami to discussing the importance of “security in the Middle East”, the US State Department said.
- The Qatari Prime Minister met with US Vice President JD Vance on Friday. The two sides discussed “Pakistan’s mediation project aimed at reducing tensions in a way that helps promote security and stability in the region”, according to a statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Iran has yet to respond to the U.S. request for an end to the war, although U.S. President Donald Trump said late Friday that he hoped to receive it that night.
- French radio LCI journalist Margot Haddad said on Saturday that Trump had told her in a brief interview that he was still waiting for Iran’s answer “soon”.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed Moscow’s willingness to oversee the transfer and storage of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium.
In the Gulf
- Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates, expressed “his country’s full cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain and its support for all the efforts of the Bahraini security authorities” to expose a cell linked to the IRGC and “espionage activities”.
- Bahrain said on Saturday it had arrested 41 people belonging to a group linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. The Ministry of Interior said that an investigation had confirmed that he had been in contact with the IRGC and had collected money “with the intention of sending it to Iran” to support “terrorists”.
In Israel
- Israel’s Foreign Ministry said Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Avila, activists who were captured by Israel from the Global Sumud Flotilla bound for Gaza, were deported on Sunday.
- Israel’s military says it has found a “suspicious aircraft” found in an area where the raiding party was operating in southern Lebanon.
- Many Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv to protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and military operations in southern Lebanon.
In Lebanon
- Hezbollah, the Lebanese armed group, said its fighters hit an Israeli D9 bulldozer in the Khallat Raj area of Deir Siryan town in southern Lebanon on Sunday.
- The Israeli military said it struck more than 40 Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon over the weekend.
- The European Union’s crisis management chief, Hadja Lahbib, urged people to increase humanitarian access to southern Lebanon, where Israel and Hezbollah have continued to carry out violence despite the cessation of hostilities. “The aid is ready, but often it cannot reach those who need it the most,” Lahbib told reporters on the second day of a visit to Lebanon and before the expected EU aid.
Hormuz River
- A bulk carrier was reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing 43 kilometers northeast of Doha, Qatar, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported on Sunday.
- A Qatari natural gas tanker has been on its way to Pakistan and was in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday, according to a MarineTraffic dispatch. Its visit is the first visit of a Qatari LNG carrier through the strait since the US and Israel started their war on February 28.
- The UK has said it will send a destroyer to the Middle East ahead of any international mission to help protect ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation should be led by Britain and France, which have already emphasized that they will be different from the deployment of the US military in the region.
- The U.S. Central Command said on Saturday that it had “grounded” four ships and prevented 58 commercial vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports since April 13.
