Iran war day 120: Tehran opposes US strikes, says it violates MoU | US-Israel War on Iran News

The US says it targeted an Iranian weapons depot with drones while the IRGC said it struck US military bases in the region.

The United States and Iran exchanged views for the first time since signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last week, sparking tensions just days before the two sides meet for the next round of talks.

The US military said it carried out the strike in retaliation for a drone attack on a cargo ship yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz. This came as US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the attack.

The Iranian government said the bomb hit near a square in the city of Sirik near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said Qeshm Island was also affected.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it is targeting areas where US troops have been deployed in retaliation for Trump’s recent attacks.

This is what we know that the conflict enters the 120th day.

In Iran

  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the US protests. “US attacks targeting coastal patrol facilities violate Article 1 of the Memorandum of Understanding.”
  • Iran’s IRGC, in a statement, said it responded to the US strike on Friday by targeting US military bases in the region. “In response to the violence, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted the location of the US military deployment in the region,” he said. There were no reports of US terrorist attacks as of press time.
  • Iran’s IRGC accuses the US of violating its obligations under the MoU in the latest attack, adding that the deal gives Tehran control over shipping that passes through the Strait of Hormuz – a major global waterway.
  • The Iranian MP said that the US attack on Iran in the negotiations revealed Washington’s lack of commitment to the negotiations and to the end of the agreement. Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on X that the US “again attacked Iran in the midst of negotiations”.
  • Iran’s Mehr news agency said the director of ports in eastern Hormozgan has not suffered any damage at the port of Sirik in Hormozgan province following the US attack.

In the US

  • The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said it is targeting Iranian weapons and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar sites.
  • The US military posted a video showing its protests in Iran, just hours after CENTCOM reported the attack.
  • US Vice President JD Vance has warned that “violence will be met with violence” after Washington’s protests in Iran.
  • The US State Department has released a statement on the agreement between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, DC. The plan says the Israeli military will “gradually redeploy from Lebanese territory” disarmed non-state actors, such as Hezbollah.
  • The National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a US non-profit group, said it was “dismayed and concerned” by the boat attack in Hormuz and the US military’s response to the attack on Iran. “The US and Iran have started a diplomatic process and should use the means of communication to bring about conflict, not bombs,” the NIAC wrote on TV.

In Lebanon

  • After the US talks, Israel and Lebanon signed a “policy agreement” that Washington says aims to end the “endless conflict”.
  • Lebanon’s Hezbollah has rejected the deal, with one politician saying it will “only meet the demands” of Israel.
  • Amidst the protests in Beirut, Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr reports that those against the Israel-Lebanon agreement said it would not end Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon. “The word withdrawal is not in the wording,” he said in post X. “Instead, the framework says that Israeli forces will ‘withdraw from Lebanese territory’ when non-governmental organizations – such as Hezbollah – are disarmed.”
  • The National News Agency of Lebanon reported on Saturday that the Israeli army bombed overnight near the town of Markaba, which is located 1.5km (1 mile) from the Israel-Lebanon border.

Hormuz River

  • President Trump on Friday described the attack on a submarine near the Strait of Hormuz as a “senseless violation of our Ceasefire Agreement”.
  • Iranian President Ebrahim Azizi responded to Trump’s tweets on social media, saying that Iran controls the river and that ships must “respect the law” and “use safe channels”.
  • Spokesman Stephane Dujarric has said that the UN hopes to see a “stable” opening of the Strait of Hormuz. “I think it’s important that everyone does what they did for every contract that’s signed,” Dujarric told reporters in New York.
  • Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar Atas, from Tehran, said there were talks about a way to mediate between the United States and Iran to resolve the ongoing conflict. “But the IRGC today said that there is no such communication system; it has not been established, and it will not exist,” he said.
  • Al Jazeera’s Atas said that Tehran sees the Strait of Hormuz as a “big lever” in negotiations with the US. “For the Iranian people, it is a wise decision to assert control and sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Because, for Tehran, the Strait of Hormuz is the biggest obstacle and the biggest asset that Tehran has at the negotiating table,” he said.
