With the stadium flooded with Kohli’s iconic number 18 shirt, the former India captain once again delivered on the biggest stage.
He might turn 38 later this year but a player renowned for his ability to master a chase showed there was plenty left in the tank as he scored his fastest IPL half-century.
Kohli and fellow opener Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 32 off 16 balls, got RCB off to the perfect start with a quick 62-run opening stand.
Mohammed Siraj made the breakthrough by dismissing Iyer before Kagiso Rabada removed Devdutta Padikal to give Gujarat the opening.
Rashid Khan then increased the momentum for the Titans, claiming two wickets in an over as skipper Rajat Patidar fell for 15, followed by Krunal Pandya.
But Kohli, who retires from T20 Internationals after the 2024 World Cup, remained steadfast, as he shared a crucial 41-run partnership with Tim Davids to set up the chase.
David scored 24 before departing, leaving Kohli to guide RCB home with Jitesh Sharma.
Kohli even provided an iconic finish to most of the people inside the stadium as he smashed Arshad Khan over long-on for a six.
“I feel very happy to play in a group where we have balance, we have strength,” Kohli added.
“We are an all-round strong team. And that’s why we have confidence on the field now.”
