IOC rejects human rights complaint against Trump ally Infantino | Football News

The IOC says complaints against its member and FIFA chief Infantino fell outside its ethics committee.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected human rights group FairSquare’s complaint against FIFA President Gianni Infantino, saying the matter was not in the hands of the Ethics Commission, an IOC spokesperson said.

“The IOC Ethics Commission has conducted a detailed investigation into FairSquare’s complaint,” an IOC spokesperson said on Friday.

“The organization noted that the current complaints, including the FIFA president, only refer to the IF’s decisions on its governance and management, including its relationship with the government, and the IF’s compliance with the rules of its sport, which are outside the scope of the IOC Code of Ethics,” he said.

“The complaint is not under the jurisdiction of the IOC Ethics Commission. FairSquare has been duly informed,” the spokesperson said.

FairSquare filed a complaint against Infantino on July 14, saying he “repeatedly violated the IOC’s neutrality rules by giving his support to US President Donald Trump”.

The group said it would file a complaint over what it called Infantino’s “repeated violations of neutrality rules”, expanding a campaign that has already seen the body criticize FIFA’s practices.

He also filed a complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee last year, saying that Infantino, on several occasions, had publicly expressed his support for President Trump’s actions and policies.

Infantino, a member of the IOC since 2020, has faced several appearances alongside Trump, which was central to FairSquare’s complaint.

In this year’s World Cup, led by the United States, Mexico and Canada, Trump has participated in several controversial events. Boos rang out around New Jersey’s New York Stadium on July 19 as Trump and Infantino entered the arena for the World Cup finals.

Trump also said that earlier in the game he called Infantino to ask him to review the red card shown to US striker Folarin Balogun in the last 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. and

Balogun was suspended for the last 16 game against Belgium but was cleared to play in the match, which the US lost 4-1.

The US president was awarded the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize in December for his efforts to promote dialogue and resolve conflicts in some of the world’s most conflict-ridden areas.
