An own goal to seal the victory
International newspapers have reacted to the events of this Tuesday evening’s Al-Nasr-Al-Hilal Riyadh derby in the Saudi Roshen League.
Al-Nasr drew with Al-Hilal 1-1. During their combined meeting today, Tuesday, at the “Aval Park” stadium, in the thirtieth round of the Rushen League.
Al-Nasr’s only goal was scored by French defender Mohamed Simakan in the 37th minute, but a fatal mistake by Brazilian goalkeeper Pinto in the 8th minute of the deadline gave Al-Hilal a draw.
“Marca” newspaper headlined. “Surreal. Al-Nasr and Cristiano miss the chance to celebrate the title… at the last minute.”
“Cristiano, who did not finish the match (because he was substituted in the 82nd minute), left the field to the warm applause of the fans. Minutes later, after the final whistle, he headed for the dressing room with his hands on his head. He couldn’t believe what had happened.
“Sport” newspaper commented. “Cristiano’s face is priceless, this is his reaction to the surreal own goal that delayed his victory in his first title in Saudi Arabia.”
Cristiano will have to wait and suffer again
In turn, AS newspaper said: “Big mistake and Cristiano leaves without the title.”
He continued. “Al-Nasr were one step away from the league title until Pinto missed out on victory in the last minute with a fatal error…Cristiano will have to wait and suffer again to become champions.”

Disappointment overwhelms Ronaldo
The Portuguese “Record” newspaper commented. “Pinto’s freak own goal in the dying moments of the game ended Al-Nasr’s chances of becoming Saudi champions.”
“Cristiano could not believe the goal scored by “Al Hilal” 12 seconds before the end of the match.
As for the Portuguese newspaper “Apola”, the headline was as follows:
He continued. “Cristiano is in tears… the captain couldn’t control his emotions after the disappointment.”
The Sun newspaper in England wrote: “Ronaldo was on the verge of tears… A terrible own goal in the final minutes denied him his first title in Saudi Arabia.”
