Although his body was not found, the Frenchman accused of murdering his wife has confessed from prison.
Cédric Jubillard, 38, sent a letter to his lawyers claiming responsibility for Delphine’s death in December 2020 at their family home in southern France.
He also promised to lead investigators to the place where he took her body.
Jubilar was convicted of murder last year and sentenced to 30 years in prison. He maintained his innocence throughout the trial. The appeal was due to be launched in two months, but could now be extended, the lawyers said.
At a news conference on Monday following the trial, Pierre Debuisson, who took over as lawyer from Jubilant’s former team, said: “A few weeks ago I said, ‘I want to tell you the truth’. I was.”
Jubilar said he killed Delphine “after another marriage negotiation” and used his car to move her body the night she died, DeBuyson said.
Jubilar’s mystery began at the height of his Covid arrests when – at 04:00 local time (03:00 GMT) 16 December 2020 – Jubilar contacted the police that his wife was missing.
Delphine, who was 33 at that time, was a night nurse in a clinic not far from their home in Cagnac-les-Mains in the department of Tarn. The couple had two children, aged six and 18 months.
Police have learned that the Jubilarians were not in a happy relationship. Cedric smoked cannabis every day and quit his job. Delphine was in a relationship with a man she met on the Internet. She and Cedric were talking about divorce.
Police and local residents conducted extensive searches in the surrounding countryside – going down to some disused mines dotted around the area.
Delphine’s body was never found, but slowly charges were made against Cedric and he was arrested and imprisoned in mid-2021 under investigation.
Malika Chamani, the lawyer for the two children, said: “We are relieved for the children. Now he has to tell us where the body is, I think that is what will happen now. I hope so.”
