In the video, the rival of Jordan and Algeria defeats Tunisia with 10 players

The Carthage Eagles are slipping

Tunisia lost 1-0 to hosts Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium this Monday evening in a friendly match in Vienna, Austria, as part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

The qualification of the Tunisian national team to the World Cup is no longer an exceptional event, as it has become one of the regular guests of the tournament in recent years, as the Carthage Eagles team prepares for its seventh participation in the history of the World Cup, the third in a row and the fifth in the twenty-first century.

The draw for the 2026 World Cup finals has placed Tunisia in Group 6 alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Sweden in a group that looks balanced but is not without challenges and ambitions.

On the other hand, the Austrian team is going to compete in a group that includes the teams of Argentina, Algeria and Jordan in one of the groups where a strong competition for the qualification cards is expected.

The only goal of the match was scored by Marcel Sabitzer in the 63rd minute after a successful shot that ended up in the Tunisian net, giving his country victory in a friendly match.

The match for Austria saw the team sent off after Konrad Leimer was shown a red card by the referee in the 37th minute following the return of video assistant referee (VAR) technology.

Despite the home team’s numerical disadvantage, the Tunisian team could not capitalize on the advantage of the extra player, so the Austrian team continued to dominate and held the lead until the final whistle.

The Tunisian national team will complete their preparations for the 2026 World Cup with a strong friendly against Belgium next Saturday, before leaving for the official competition.
