The former star of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, Libyan Tariq Al-Tayeb, expected Morocco to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup at the expense of France.

Morocco is set to face France in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup next Thursday.

“I am optimistic about Morocco’s victory over France in the quarter-finals,” Al-Tayeb said while hosting ON Sport’s program from Cairo.

“Morocco’s style of play is similar to France’s in terms of open play and quality of players, but the Roosters excel from the bench.

He continued. “Morocco defeated Spain and Portugal in the 2022 World Cup and this edition can surpass France, the first candidate to win the World Cup.”

He noted: “I expect Sufyan Rahimi to start the match against France because he is more prepared than his colleague Ayoub El Kaabi.”

Regarding the round of 16 match between Egypt and Argentina, he commented. “On paper, the Argentine team is the closest to promotion.”

He noted: “If the game goes to extra time and penalties, the Egyptian national team will know the way forward thanks to the brilliance of its goalkeeper Mustafa Shubert.”
