Egypt’s goalkeeper Mostafa Schubert has revealed the secret of his save from Lionel Messi’s penalty kick during the World Cup round of 16 match against Argentina, which ended in a 3-2 defeat for the Pharaohs.

Schubert said during his program on the MBC Masr satellite channel that he wanted to study Messi’s penalty-taking style.

He pointed out that the Argentinian star calmly entered and waited for the opponent’s goalkeeper to move, then sent the ball to the opposite corner.

He noted: “Messi did it by missing a penalty in the match in Austria, which prompted him to change his style in the game in Egypt, but I stayed in my place until the last minute.”

He noted that luck plays a decisive role, citing his experience in previous matches, where he managed to take a penalty against Iran, while failing to take penalties against Australia, who missed two shots off target.

Mustafa Schubert emphasized that dealing with penalty kicks is largely dependent on “luck” in the first place, in addition to a careful study of the striker’s style and the way he stands before taking the kick.
