In the video.. Schubert. Lekka and Motsepe support the addition of African Championship clubs

Follow the fate of the historic proposal

Journalist and Pharaohs historical keeper Ahmed Schubert said today, Saturday, that the proposal of the President of the Egyptian Football Association and member of the CAF Executive Office, Hani Abu Raida, regarding the increase in the number of clubs participating in the championships of the African continent, is supported by the most prominent figures in CAF.

Shubert said through his program on the Egyptian “Al-Nahar” TV channel that a meeting of the CAF executive office was supposed to take place yesterday, Friday, during which the proposal would be discussed, but logistical obstacles prevented it.

“Although the meeting did not take place, the majority of CAF opinion supports the proposal and it has the support of Motsepe (CAF President) and Mr. Fouzi Lakyaa (CAF Vice President and Moroccan Federation President). The proposal to add more clubs is expected to be approved in the coming days, regardless of whether a new match is held.

The proposal includes giving some federations (including Egypt) an extra place in each tournament to bring the number of participating clubs (by classification) from some countries to 3 clubs in both the CAF Champions League and the Confederations Cup, with a third club participating from the preliminary rounds.

Schubert confirmed that the matter is still “permanently on the table” within CAF and is expected to be resolved soon before the agenda for the new season on the African continent is announced.
