The goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team shined strongly during the World Cup
Al-Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert revealed some scenes from his football career after his brilliance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in America, Canada and Mexico.
Schubert put in a strong performance to lead Egypt to their first ever World Cup quarter-final before losing 2-3 to Argentina in a game where he converted a penalty from legend Lionel Messi.
The young keeper spoke about the secret to his brilliance, especially at the level of using his feet to build up the play, as he revealed that he is going to start his career as a player and not as a goalkeeper.
Shubert said during the “Here’s the World Championship” program of “An-Nahar Sports” TV channel. “The question of playing and scoring goals is enjoyable for many people, better than just staying in goal.”
“I loved being a player and I tried it and tried it for a while but I found my passion in goalkeeping and then it all served me well when the goalkeeper was asked to play with his feet and that’s what I’m good at.”
The young goalkeeper also spoke about his stance on professionalism in the European leagues in the coming period, especially in light of some news linking him with a move to some clubs in the Spanish league.
“Professionalism is a dream for any player and that’s normal, but between me and Al-Ahly there is a contract and there is a relationship that has existed for a long time. I’ve been at the club since I was 6 years old, and now I’m 26, and I’m not even a fan of it.”
“Any offer will be through Al-Ahli and we will meet then to find out the club’s point of view. I’m not sure what will happen, but I’m sure that whatever happens will be good and I will understand the decision, whatever it is.”
Mustafa Schubert also sent a special message to former Al-Ahly and Egypt star Mohamed Abutrika for his analysis of Pharaohs matches on Qatar’s BeIN Sports channel.
He concluded. “I send my greetings to Captain Mohamed Abutrika. Everyone told me that he supports the whole Egyptian team and not just me, so I am very grateful to him.”
