Mexico became the first to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win over South Korea in Group One GMT this Friday morning.
At the Guadalajara Stadium, Luis Romo scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute after a fatal mistake by Korean goalkeeper Kim Hsiang-gyu, who intercepted one of the balls, but it fell out of his hands after colliding with a teammate, and the Mexican player put it into the net.

With the win, the home team extended their lead at the top of the group to 6 points, while South Korea’s point was frozen to 3 points in second place.
The Czech Republic is in third place with one point on goal difference from bottom of the table South Africa (1-1).
The first half was characterized by both teams holding their own, but Luis Romo’s opener in the second half ignited the atmosphere, especially in the closing minutes, which saw a flurry of successive attacks from South Korea and Mexico building a defensive wall and trying to counter-attack.
