The Senegalese star tops the list of the best goalscorers of the Teranga Lions at the World Cup
Senegal star Ismaila Sar continued to make history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after scoring against Belgium in the 32nd round of the tournament today, Wednesday.
Ismaila Sarr scored a superb goal in the 51st minute with a rocket from Thibaut Courtois’s left, taking advantage of Moussa Nyakati’s perfect long-range ball.
Sar extended Teranga Lions’ lead with a second goal in the first half after Habib Diara’s opener.
According to statistics from the Opta network, Sarr became the second African player in history to score four goals in one World Cup match, after Cameroonian legend Roger Milla in 1990.
Sar had scored three goals in the current game before the Belgium clash, two against Norway and one against Iraq.
Crystal Palace star Sarr also became Senegal’s all-time top scorer and the second-highest scorer in World Cup history for an African player with five goals, along with Milla, while he is one goal away from Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan’s record, according to Statusfoot.
In addition to his four goals in the current game, Sarr scored against Ecuador in 2022.
