Will the Atlas Lions repeat at the 2022 World Cup?

Saudi football legend Sami Al Jaber considered that the chances of all Arab teams at the 2026 World Cup are good, noting that the Moroccan team is the only exception.

The 2026 World Cup kicks off today, Thursday, with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, featuring 48 teams, including 8 Arab teams for the first time in the history of the World Cup.

In MBC 1’s Nadina program, Al-Jaber said:“The opportunity is available to all Arab teams because there are no more technical differences in football, especially since most of the stars in the main teams were far from their level.”

He added: “The Arab teams are facing a big challenge and there is the weather factor, which is an important factor that will help all the Arab teams without exception.”

He also added: “There is also less pressure on all the Arab teams, given that they are not in the running to achieve anything big and are content with the dream of qualifying for the round of 32, except for Morocco, who have raised the bar of ambition after the 2022 World Cup.”

He concluded. “I am very optimistic about our Arab teams, considering that football does not have as much difference between teams as it used to. Therefore, if it fails to qualify for the round of 32, it should be a strong contender in the group stage.”

Notably, the Moroccan national team managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, becoming the first Arab and African team to achieve this feat, before losing to France and Croatia to finish fourth.
