Why did the referee ignore the dismissal of the Japanese star?
Italian referee Maurizio Mariani ignored the red card shown to one of the players of the Japanese national team during the match against Brazil in the 32nd round of the 2026 World Cup.
And it was revealed Spanish “Archivo VAR” network. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene despite the situation calling for a direct send-off, explaining: “Kaicho Sano planted the nails of his boot on the inside of Vinicius Junior’s ankle, causing a severe ankle sprain. Japan opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Kaisho Sano, who produced a remarkable individual effort after he dribbled past Casemiro before unleashing a powerful shot from outside the box that found goalkeeper Alisson Becker’s right corner.
Brazil managed to equalize in the 56th minute, after a Samba player made a perfect pass from the left flank to Casemiro, who powerfully smashed the ball into the net to seal the equaliser.
