Parents should not publicly post images of their children online due to the rise of AI-generated images of violence, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has warned.
With the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), he says there is a growing threat of images of children being used online to create child sexual abuse (CSAM).
In the year More than 8,000 AI-generated images and videos have been identified by the IWF by 2025 – an increase of 14 percent from last year.
NCA Senior Manager Tim Wright said: “Prevention is important when we and our police colleagues are fighting crime.”
In partnership with IWF, the organization has released new guidance for parents outlining steps they can take to keep their children safe online.
It says parents who want to share images should review their privacy settings or create a “close friends” group.
“AI is becoming part of everyday life,” the guide says.
“Despite its many benefits, it can be misused – including by those who use it to create, monitor and share nude, semi-nude or sexual images and videos of children.”
IWF analysts identified 13 AI-generated child sexual abuse videos in 2024 – but this number will rise to 3,440 in 2025.
This image is considered CSAM in the UK.
The government has tried to prevent AI violence against children, especially young girls Blocking the so-called “nude” applications and amending rules to help AI organizations ensure that their systems cannot be used to produce CSAM.
