Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez enter the summer without a job for the first time in years, despite their different careers and the circumstances of their departures.

The two Barcelona legends appear in the summer transfer window to coincide with the 2026 World Cup, opening new doors for them to coach the national teams.

Names on the table

Guardiola’s name has been linked with England and Italy, while Xavi has been mentioned as a possible candidate to coach Morocco.

Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera recently revealed Milan’s interest in Xavi, but his priorities are focused on coaching the national team and not returning to clubs.

Rest or wait?

According to AS newspaper, Guardiola has announced his intention to rest, something Xavi previously did when he left Barcelona.

He explained that the coaches will not spend the World Cup away from analysis and study, because rest for them means preparing for the next step, and all indications show that this step will be in international football.

Temptation of teams

The paper notes that national team training provides less media pressure, less coverage, less travel and more time for personal life, and so they are heading towards national team training, and soon we will see a showdown between them at a major tournament, perhaps the 2030 World Cup.
