Lorenzo Salgado Araujo’s sons tell lawmakers that their father worked hard to ‘protect and take care’ of his family.

Two young men who were shot by US immigration officials have called for a full investigation into what happened in talks with lawmakers.

Speaking at a Houston meeting with Democratic members of Congress on Friday, the children of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo described the “Kafkaesque horror” she had experienced since learning on Facebook that her father had been shot.

“He worked hard to protect and provide for our family … He taught us that good things come to those who work hard,” the sons said in a statement previously reported by the Associated Press.

Salgado Araujo, 52, was killed during a traffic stop by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, which shocked thousands of Houstonians. go to the street protesting and demanding justice.

Salgado Araujo was a Mexican immigrant who had been in the U.S. for more than 30 years without permission, according to his family. He was not the target of the ICE operation that led to his death.

“I also heard from the Facebook page that our father was shot,” another son, Ronaldo Salgadok, told the court. Not because I see her, but because I hear her voice in videos posted online crying for help.

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare told the court that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, ignored his request for more information and evidence about the case, including the name of the officer who shot him.

Three other passengers, including Salgado’s brother Araujo, were arrested by ICE during the traffic stop. Authorities said Salgado Araujo armed his car against the officers, but ICE agents were not wearing body cameras at the time. The witnesses have disagreed this type of event.

Democratic members of Congress have indicated they want to investigate ICE and enact reforms if they win re-election to Congress in November’s midterm elections.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Democratic Congressman Christian Menefee said ICE must be “taken down” and rebuilt as an agency that recognizes “the dignity of the people it deals with”.

“But we all know that this will not happen in this administration,” he added.

Less than a week after Salgado Araujo was killed, ICE agents shot and killed Joan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, of Colombian descent, in Biddeford, Maine.

Earlier this year, federal immigration agents killed two US citizens in different situations in Minneapolis, which sparked outrage and protests across the country.
