“We’re all rooting for Erling Haaland,” said Marie, an American attending the Norwegian celebration in Miami, Florida.
“We all fell in love with him,” she told BBC Mundo. “He is evil and he is a beast.”
Miami resident Robert told BBC Mundo: “I was taken in by Mr. Holland. “He’s a machine, that guy. Terminator, get over it.”
Robert organized a Norwegian-style “row” with 10 friends in Miami Beach on Friday morning, inspired by clips of the Norwegian group on social media.
“Us Americans who don’t know much about football… it’s fantastic. It’s fantastic.”
The Norwegian striker also appears to be in America.
“People are really nice here,” Holland said in one of his vlogs. “They are very positive, I don’t know what it is, they are enjoying life.”
“I will definitely come back here,” he added.
At a recent press conference, Haaland was asked about his new American fans.
“I like Americans, I think they’re funny. They’re funny, I like them.”
Haaland also interacts directly with his fans, much to his delight.
An Instagram user posted a video of spring onions with the caption: “Am I missing out or does this green onion look like Hollandaise?”
The football player’s comment (a gif of a dog in a car, raising an eyebrow when the car window is rolled down) has nearly 1.5 million likes.
Spring onion comparisons have found traction in unexpected corners of the internet.
Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna asked her followers on X if they were rooting for Norway or England in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
She then posted a video of Spring Onion with the caption: “Let everyone know where I stand,” paired with a Norwegian flag emoji.
