The head coach of the Egyptian national team, Ibrahim Hassan, has expressed his extreme anger regarding the actions of the Argentinian captain Lionel Messi during the confrontation between the two sides in the 1/8 finals of the 2026 World Cup.
The Egyptian national team lost to their Argentinian counterpart (2-3) last Tuesday night in their group match, which witnessed many controversial refereeing decisions that led to the defeat of the “Pharaohs”.

He continued. “It is noteworthy that the members of the Argentinian staff went to our technical area, and not the other way around, and the goal was clear, which was to provoke reactions from the Egyptian team in those sensitive moments of the game.
He noted that after this behavior the atmosphere became very tense, explaining. “It came to the point where captain Saafan Al-Sagheer could not control his temper in front of the bench due to direct and deliberate provocation, which resulted in him receiving a red card from the match referee.”
He concluded his speech by saying: “What was done had no technical purpose, but was just an attempt to provoke the Egyptian national team and distract them in the last minutes of the match and to put psychological pressure on the players and the technical staff after the refereeing dispute that the confrontation witnessed.”
